Ed Ruscha has said, “There are things that I’m constantly looking at that I feel should be elevated to greater status, almost to philosophical status or to a religious status….It’s the concept of taking something that’s not subject matter and making it subject matter.” Originally crated using pastel on paper—The Girl Always Did Have Good Taste (1976), is a noteworthy example of Rucha's focus of placing language at the center of his practice, reflecting on contemporary life with candor and humor.
