Contra Cocaine Poster

Robbie Conal's powerful political posters, featured in our exhibition Desire, Hope, and Knowledge (with Smog) at The Broad, include Contra Cocaine (1988). This artwork addresses the introduction of crack cocaine in the U.S. during Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign, coinciding with the U.S. government supporting Contra rebels in Nicaragua, who were involved in cocaine trafficking. Outraged by the political misuse of power, Conal transformed oil portraits into street posters, providing a thought-provoking commentary on the complex interplay of politics and societal issues.
