Discover the Case Study House program (194566)—a unique event in the history of American architecture. This program, sponsored by Arts & Architecture magazine, was concentrated in the Los Angeles area. Its goal was to respond to the postwar building boom with prototype modern homes that could be easily replicated and readily affordable to the average American. Thirty-six model homes were commissioned by major architects of the day, including Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig, Eero Saarinen, A. Quincy Jones, and Ralph Rapson. This compact guide, written by Elizabeth A.T. Smith and edited by Peter Gössel, includes all 36 of the homes, over 150 photos and plans, and a map showing locations of all the sites (even the ones that no longer exist).
