Discover the Case Study House program (1945–1966)—a unique event in the history of American architecture. This program, sponsored by Arts & Architecture magazine, was concentrated in the Los Angeles area. Its goal was to respond to the postwar building boom with prototype modern homes that could be easily replicated and readily affordable to the average American. Thirty-six model homes were commissioned by major architects of the day, including Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig, Eero Saarinen, A. Quincy Jones, and Ralph Rapson. This retrospective of the entire program includes comprehensive documentation, photographs from the period, and contemporary photos, floor plans, and sketches for the houses still in existence. Photographed by Julius Shulman. Written by Elizabeth A.T. Smith. Edited by Peter Gössel.
