Her eyes are replaced by what appears to be a magazine cutout, while her attire blends in with the patterns and textures of the vibrant background. For 20 years, Mickalene has been celebrating the power of the female gaze. Her practice explores femininity, race, culture, sexuality and beauty, through artworks which empower and offer new avenues for representation.
