World 1, 2022
World 1 is an edition based on a painting (2019) of the same name. In this work, a decaying billboard stands tall as the sunset's soft and warm tones begin to fade, and the purple hues make way for the night sky. Sayre Gomez uses hyperreal painting techniques to address themes of representation and visuality. His paintings, sculptures, and videos adopt the visual vernacular of Los Angeles, drawing on the postmodern mashup of urban sprawl, car culture, and natural beauty inherent to contemporary L.A. Produced in an edition of 30, each work is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Online promotions are not applicable.
